The View

I treated Paul to the room upgrade as it looked lovely on the website (and it was), but the view was… disappointing.

The larger room overlooked a walkway that connected to the arena, and I would have thought it would get a bit noisy if there was an event.

The smaller had a spectacular view over the Mersey, though. The long, cushioned window seat was a plus, and the little round table made a good enough desk.

Our Stay Count: 2

Room Types: Superior Room, Premium Deluxe

Location & Parking

Location is right by the M&S arena, so if you have an event, it would be a perfect place to stay. Parking is a little walk away, and there are two car parks - one is permit-only, so don’t use that one! There is a drop-off zone which isn’t massively helpful if you’re a solo traveller, but for us it was handy.

It’s quite a jaunt into the city centre, but the route takes you past the Albert Docks, which is an area that is always atmospheric and lively. It’s maybe a 20/25 walk to the city centre.

Room Types

We stayed in two different rooms on two different occasions. The bigger room has its issues - you can’t see the TV from the sofa, only from the bed. so Paul did a bit of lifting and shifting of the modular sofa, and it sort of fixed the problem.

Work Space

The larger room had a good-sized desk (screwed to the floor - be aware!) but the smaller was a little cramped. There is a co-work space, but it was closed for meeting use when we were there, so I’ll try to get a nosy in if we stay again.

Plenty of plug sockets in both rooms, as well as some by the bed, so we were never too far from somewhere to plug in.

Room Storage

Sigh.

There was nowhere to put my knickers in either room. The larger room only had a high-up shelf in the wardrobe, and I’m not blessed with height. Hanging space a-plenty, but nowhere to put anything else, and I’m certainly not hanging up my underwear.

Food & Drink

There is a piano bar and restaurant downstairs. I haven’t tried the restaurant menu, but the bar menu is good, if a little pricey. Not masses on it, but enough if you want a light lunch or quick bite. Coffee was good, as was the pinot grigio!

Hmm…

Some questionable hat choices by the staff… Uniform? Who knows…

  • It was here I first found the need to unpack things I never normally unpack.
